Flooring is a major investment in your home. Care and cleaning of your flooring is important for many reasons. One of the most important is that most manufacturers require that the flooring has been properly cared for to keep warrantees intact. A regular maintenance schedule is by far the best way to get the most out of your flooring and keep it looking great as long as possible.
Carpet
Daily vacuuming is the beginning of any maintenance program. You don’t want to wait until the carpet looks dirty to vacuum it. We recommend that you have your carpet professionally cleaned 1-2 times per year. Heavier traffic areas such as hallways and stairs will require cleaning more often than lighter traffic areas like bedrooms. It is important that you tell your cleaner the type of fiber that the carpet is made out of since different fibers require different cleaning methods. If you are not sure of the type of fiber that you have you can call our store and we can look it up for you. If dirt is allowed to build up too much in a carpet, the dirt can become impacted and at this point it is too late for a cleaner to restore your carpet.
When selecting a carpet cleaner a good question to ask is whether the cleaning equipment is mounted in their truck or do they use a portable machine. Truck mounted equipment is more powerful and does a better job of “extracting” the dirt and the cleaning solution applied to your carpeting. The extraction process is the most important part of the cleaning.
Vinyl
Daily vacuuming or sweeping is the beginning of any maintenance program. The floor should be damp mopped as needed. Damp mop means just that; your mop should be damp, not wet or dripping. The type of cleaner is very important because many cleaners on the market are too harsh and can actually damage the floor. We recommend using a vinyl floor cleaner put out by one of the major vinyl manufacturers (Armstrong, Congoleum, or Mannington). We sell these in our store.
